Doc Conroy is front and center stage for May’s Featured Car with his 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. This car is one beautiful ride, but that was not always the case. Doc bought the car in the mid 80’s for $1,500.00 and it had issues such as rusted body parts, a fender that was bulging out about 6”, and many more things. The car sat in storage for many years before he could get to working on it. When he did, he worked on it like a mad scientist and after 33 months and some $50,000.00-$60,000.00 it was done as the classic beauty it is today.

This car has had some notoriety in its past. It was featured in Hot Rod Magazine’s July 2002 issue and has been featured on IN-N-OUT’S t-shirts.

With a full body off restoration, Doc has tubbed the car, modified the frame, built numerous specialized parts, put Glide like bucket seats in the rear to look like Corvette seats, he took Ford Torus seats redesigned for the front.  There are so many stories about this car and the stuff Doc has done to it that I recommend when you see Doc and the car, stop and talk to him; he’s always ready to talk about his car. He likes his car and is very proud of it.   Doc, we are also glad you and the car are with us in CAL-RODS.
